Is a screen torch as bright as the camera LED?+
No — a camera flash LED is far brighter and more directional. A screen spreads a wider, softer, dimmer pool. For close work that is often better; for lighting something twenty feet away, the LED wins comfortably.
Will this drain my battery?+
A display at 100% brightness is usually the largest single power draw on a phone, so yes, noticeably. Fine for a few minutes; not something to leave running overnight.
